LED Scoreboard and Video Wall Installations at Penn State University

American/Interstate Signcrafters (AIS) partnered with Sansi North America on two LED display installations at Penn State University. The project included an exterior scoreboard at Lasch Field and an interior LED video wall at Holuba Hall, along with structural steel fabrication, custom mounting solutions, protective features, and finishing work.

The Challenge

Installing new LED displays at Penn State University's Lasch Field and Holuba Hall required AIS to navigate two very different installation environments.

At Lasch Field, construction was already underway and the new practice field had been completed. Heavy equipment could not travel across the finished field to access the scoreboard location. Once installation equipment was positioned, it had to remain in place for the duration of the project.

Inside Holuba Hall, the new turf and indoor working conditions restricted the equipment AIS could use. The approved 50-foot telehandler provided sufficient lifting capacity and reach but could not rotate its load. Even a small horizontal adjustment to the display required repositioning the entire machine.

Both locations required careful equipment planning and installation coordination to accommodate the site's restrictions.

The Scope

AIS was responsible for removing existing scoreboard and LED display components and installing new digital displays at Lasch Field and Holuba Hall.

The project included custom structural steel, mounting components, protective features, and finishing work.

Lasch Field – Exterior LED Scoreboard

  • 15' × 27' direct-view LED scoreboard
  • Resolution: 456 × 832 pixels
  • Total pixels: 379,392
  • Removal of existing scoreboard and associated components
  • 16-foot structural steel
  • Custom vertical galvanized steel supports with anchor bolts
  • Custom exterior display installation with horizontal steel supports
  • Rear cladding using Sign Comp extrusion and flex face
  • High-grade painting of exposed exterior steel

Holuba Hall – Interior LED Video Wall

  • 14'9" × 26'9" direct-view LED video wall
  • Resolution: 750 × 1,360 pixels
  • Total pixels: 1,020,000
  • Pixel pitch: 6 mm
  • Custom interior structural steel
  • Interior display installation using mounting hardware supplied by Sansi North America
  • Custom front protective netting with outriggers
  • Custom heat shield

How AIS Delivered

Exterior Installation at Lasch Field

AIS coordinated equipment positioning around the completed practice field, which could not be crossed by heavy machinery. With equipment remaining in a fixed location throughout the project, the installation required careful planning and coordination.

AIS installed the new exterior LED scoreboard along with custom galvanized steel supports, horizontal mounting steel, rear cladding, and painted exposed steel components.

Interior Installation at Holuba Hall

Inside Holuba Hall, AIS worked with an approved 50-foot telehandler to lift and position the LED video wall while protecting the new turf.

Because the equipment could not rotate the display, adjustments required repositioning the telehandler itself. AIS crews adapted their installation approach to work within these constraints.

The interior installation also included custom steel components, protective netting with outriggers, and a heat shield.

The Result

AIS completed two large-format LED installations at Penn State University, delivering an exterior scoreboard at Lasch Field and an interior video wall at Holuba Hall.

Together, the displays feature nearly 1.4 million pixels, supported by custom structural steel, mounting components, and protective solutions designed for their respective environments.

The project demonstrates AIS's ability to manage complex digital signage installations across both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.
